PETALING JAYA: The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (KLSCCCI) is planning to tie up with Media Prima Bhd (MPB) to promote its products and services through the latter's media channels.

Media Prima owns television stations like TV3, 8TV, ntv7 and TV9. It also owns over 98 per cent of The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP), which publishes newspapers such as The New Straits Times (NST), Berita Harian and Harian Metro.

"I think the media channels are among the most important tools that we can use to spread news," KLSCCCI president Datuk Ter Leong Yap told reporters at the MPB-KLSCCCI luncheon yesterday.

KLSCCCI is an influential group representing the Chinese business community in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

It has 2,201 members including 74 trade associations, 1,839 corporate members and 208 individuals.

Present at the luncheon were MPB chairman Datuk Johan Jaaffar, NSTP chief executive officer Mohammad Azlan Abdullah, NST group editor Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun and Berita Harian group editor Datuk Mior Kamarul Shahid.

In his speech earlier, Ter said as Malaysia is a multi-racial and multi-cultural nation, the cohesion and harmony among racial groups is essential and important.

"KLSCCCI and MPB can work hand-in-hand to promote racial harmony as well as to cultivate the common values of moderation.

"I hope that we will establish a close rapport and together let us work closely for the interest and prosperity of Malaysia," he said.

Ter also called on MPB to make use of its media platform such as NST, Berita Harian and Harian Metro to report stories of successful Chinese entrepreneurs from various industrial and business sectors.

"With this, we can learn from each other and share the philosophy of common values," Ter said.
