KUALA LUMPUR: The Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) said BN should take heed of the
discontent expressed by voters on alleged corruption, abuse of power
and inappropriate management of public resources.
“The 13th general election has seen a phenomenon of urban voters of
various races inclining towards the wind of change.
“ACCCIM is of the opinion that this is basically due to discontent arising
from numerous outstanding socio-economic issues such as alleged
corruption and abuse of power, inappropriate management of public
resources, deteriorating social security situation, and unresolved
educational issues etc,” the national umbrella organisation of all Chinese
chambers said in a statement congratulating BN on its victory.
ACCCIM president Datuk Lim Kok Cheong said: “It is hoped that the BN government will take heed of the message indicated
by the voters, and intensify efforts to address such issues effectively.”
He added “good governance, integrity, more liberal education policy and more effective crime prevention measures” should be
given high priority in the national agenda.
Nevertheless, Lim believed BN will honour its promises and commit to build a more harmonious and progressive Malaysia by
formulating more liberal and pragmatic policies conducive to the people and the business community.
He expects BN will continue to implement socio-economic transformation programmes in which all ethnic groups are given fair
treatment to enjoy equal opportunities in education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Lim also said the election results should be respected and supported by all concerned.
