Malaysia to further free services sub-sectors
The government is looking to further liberalise the services sub-sectors to woo more foreign direct investments (FDIs), said Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.
"No announcement has been made yet. We are still working on it," he told Bernama on the sidelines of the CEO Forum 2011 here today.
A recent report said the services sector saw RM36.74 billion in approved investments last year, of which foreign investments accounted for RM3.95 billion.
Recognising the services sector's potential as the country's main engine of growth, the government has liberalised 27 services sub-sectors and dismantled the Foreign Investment Committee guidelines in 2009.
In August 2010, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said the government would liberalise a total of 80 sub-sectors under the eighth package, which came into force in January 2011. -- Bernama
