Mid-morning Market KLCI remains in positive territory

KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): The FBM KLCI remained in positive territory at mid-morning on Wednesday, lifted by select blue chips including Petronas Dagangan, UMW and AMMB.
At 10.01am, the FBM KLCI gained 2.80 points to 1,774.69.
Advancers beat decliners by 207 to 132, while 196 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 248.39 million shares valued at RM257.09 million.
The top gainers at mid-morning included Aeon, Petronas Dagangan, GCE, Tiong Nam Logistics, GBH, UMW, Country View, Puncak Niaga and AMMB.
Luster was the most actively traded counter with 73.49 million shares done. The stock rose one sen to 11 sen.
The other actives included Ingenco, DVM, KPS, Iris Corp, Ewein, Puncak, KHSB and Salcon.
The decliners included Oriental, Genting PLANTATION []s, GAB, BAT, SCGM, Nestle, Lafarge Malaysia, Affin, Berjaya Sports Toto and Coastal Contracts.
Hwang DBS Vickers Research (HDBSV) in a note Wednesday said that as investors wait for new economic signals to emerge, Wall Street was lackluster last night.
Its leading equity indices ended between flat and -0.3% at the closing bell, it said.
“In the absence of fresh market leads, our Malaysian bourse will likely swing sideways with a slight negative bias today.
“Nevertheless, immediate downside risk for the key FBM KLCI remains relatively limited, with the benchmark index probably still treading above the first support level of 1,750 ahead,” it said.
HDBSV said amid a fairly quiet market environment, there may be a bit more interest in the following counters today: (a) Ewein, after a local media reported that the metal fabricator company is close to securing a sizeable contract (worth around RM1 billion) related to the CONSTRUCTION [] of the mega undersea tunnel project in Penang; (b) Pantech, which announced that it would be affected (albeit marginally) by the US’ anti-dumping suit on welded stainless steel pipes from Malaysia; and (c) MEGB, as it has signed an agreement to dispose of ten contiguous pieces of vacant freehold lands in Kajang (measuring 21.9 ha) for RM59 million cash (hence realizing an estimated gain of RM14 million).
Meanwhile, Asian markets see-sawed after activity in China's services sector was lacklustre in June as new orders grew at their weakest pace in more than four years, a survey showed, providing further evidence that the world's second-largest economy was losing momentum.
The HSBC/Markit Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the services industry inched up to 51.3 last month from May's 51.2, after growth in new orders hit a 55-month low and business confidence slumped to depths last seen in late 2005 when records began.

"Selangor is all set to bring the supply of water under its control before the end of the year," Abdul Khalid said. While he did not disclose figures or terms of the agreement, the Pakatan government, since came into power in 2008, has been clamouring for water to come under the control of the state. Abdul Khalid told Dr Abd Rani Osman (Meru-PAS) in the state assembly today: "The state and federal governments are working together in drafting the agreement in accordance with the Water Concessionaries Industry Act 2006. "Under the Act, the federal government has the executive power over any water deal across the peninsular and federal territories." The Selangor government cited incompetence on the part of the concessionaires as one of the reasons to acquire the companies. Answering a supplementary question, Abdul Khalid said the state is ready to manage water supply and that a professional management team is already in place. - Ikhwan Zulkaflee/ theSun [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
