KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed higher today, in tandem with the uptrend seen in the underlying equity market.

A dealer said growing optimism over the stalemate in Washington, and news of President Barack Obama's nomination of Janet Yellen to succeed Ben Bernanke as the next chief at the Federal Reserve, helped boost regional market sentiment.

At the close, spot month October 2013 rose 10 points to 1,783.5, November 2013 gained 9.5 points to 1,782.5, while both December 2013 and March 2014 chalked up 11 points each, to 1,783.5 and 1,781.5 respectively.

Turnover increased to 4,219 lots from Wednesday’s 3,688 lots, while open interest advanced to 45,113 contracts, from 44,861 contracts yesterday.

The underlying FBM KLCI ended the day 6.8 points higher, at 1,775.92.
