KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 29): Proton Holdings Bhd sold 43,260 units in the third quarter of 2013 — an increase of 27 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2012 — mainly driven by the introduction of Proton Saga SV in June this year.

In a statement today, Proton said the Saga SV helped it record a staggering 72 per cent jump in the overall sales of the Saga, in the third quarter, against the second quarter of 2013.

Within a span of four months, over 22,000 units of Saga SV had been registered, it said.

Proton Chief Operating Officer (Commercial), Hisham Othman, said the Saga SV would continue to strengthen its position as the consumers' preferred choice of entry-level sedan, due to its unique selling propositions, three-Star Asean safety rating and highly-competitive pricing, from only RM33,438.

Proton's latest offering, the Suprima S, has also received strong interest from the customers, since its launch in August, he said.

"While we have seen encouraging growth in the domestic market, we know that the automotive landscape is extremely challenging and competitive.

"But we have what it takes to be the market leader again, and we will continue to work hard to improve, to increase our sales volume to recapture the market share with our core products," he said.

Hisham said new introductions from Proton could be expected within the next six months, as the national carmaker continued to provide a variety of models that met the needs and expectations of the buyers.
