Media adex rises to RM12.2b
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's overall media advertising expenditure (adex) rose 20.2 per cent to RM12.2 billion in the first 11 months, up from RM10.1 billion in the same period a year ago.
According to the Nielsen Media Research Adex, advertisers spent RM7.2 billion on television advertising in the first 11 months of 2013, compared with RM5.4 billion previously.
The report showed that TV captured 59.3 per cent of the total adex market share in the January-November 2013 period, compared with 53.3 per cent previously.
Adex in free-to-air TV stood at RM2.84 billion compared with RM2.82 billion, while pay-TV commanded RM4.3 billion, higher than the RM2.5 billion captured over the same period last year.
During the month, the newspaper adex revenue rose 14.8 per cent to RM418.2 million from RM364.2 million recorded in November 2013.
Among the newspaper companies, The New Straits Times Press (NSTP) group's adex revenue improved to RM143.5 million from RM110 million previously. Its market share increased to 34.3 per cent, compared with 30.2 per cent last year.
Leading the adex growth in the group was Harian Metro with revenue of RM54.1 million, followed by New Straits Times and Berita Harian, with revenue of RM42.9 million and RM26.2 million, respectively.
