KLCI closes to all-time high, Tenaga, Petronas stocks lift

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI ended the week at its highest ever, backed by Tenaga and Petronas-linked stocks as investors rode on the positive external developments.
At 5pm on Friday, the KLCI rose 16.96 points to 1,861.06. Turnover was 1.19 billion valued at RM1.28bil. There were 496 gainers, 261 decliners and 335 counters unchanged.
Reuters reported most Asian share markets notched up gains on Friday after another powerful performance by Wall Street, while Japanese economic data impressed and the dollar briefly broke the 105 yen barrier for the first time in five years.
It said Shanghai made the running with a rise of 1.7% as money rates eased and China set its yuan at an historic high. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan advanced 0.8%.
At Bursa Malaysia, Tenaga rose 46 sen to RM11.60, PetDag 20 sen to RM31 andPetGas 20 sen to RM23.98.
Crude palm oil rose RM10 to RM2,644. KL Kepong rose 50 sen to RM24.60, PPB Group 26 sen to RM15.96 and Genting Plantations 20 sen to RM11.
Hibiscus rose 19 sen to RM1.72.
Consumer stocks were mixed with Nestle up 20 sen to RM68.20 but BAT fell 30 sen to RM63.20, Dutch Lady 16 sen to RM47.14 and GAB 14 sen to RM15.86.
Datasonic fell 10 sen to RM2.13 and MAHB 10 sen to RM9.20.
The ringgit strengthened against the dollar at 3.2880 from 3.2975 the previous close.
Among the key regional markets,
Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.03% to 16,178.94;
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.27% to 23,243.24;
Shanghai’s Composite Index rose 1.36% to 2,101.25;
Taiwan’s Taiex rose 0.58% to 8,535.04;
South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.15% to 2,002.28;
Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose 0.55% to 3,151.75.
US light crude oil fell four cents to US$99.57 and Brent fell eight cents to US$111.98.
Spot gold rose US$2.76 to US$1,212.40.
