KUALA LUMPUR (May 7): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed higher today, amid weaker underlying cash market.

Phillip Futures Sdn Bhd dealer, Tan Sek Wei, said heightened concern on the Ukraine crisis was the focus of the day, as it weighed upon Asian markets, with the FBM KLCI opening to a low of 1853.31.

"Weak overnight losses from the US markets also added selling pressure on the index.

"Buying support came into the market soon after and the FBM KLCI settled flat at 1,860.43," said Wei to Bernama today.

May 2014 gained 2.0 points to 1,854.5, June 2014 earned half a point to 1,853, while September 2014 and December 2014 rose 2.5 points each to 1,850.5 and 1,849.5 respectively.

Turnover increased to 7,049 lots from 5,963 lots on Tuesday, while open interest widened to 38,132 contracts, from 36,826 contracts.

The benchmark index ended flat at 1,860.43 points
