Jetstar plans to expand Asian ops
MELBOURNE: Jetstar plans to add seven more aircraft to
its Singapore hub by the end of the year as the Qantas Airways subsidiary expands its Asian operations.
Five Airbus A320s and two wide-bodied A330s would join the Singapore-based fleet between now and the end of the year amid increased services to destinations in the region such as Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong, Jetstar said in a statement.
The move will lift the total number of Jetstar aircraft flying out of Singapore to 17.
Jetstar's announcement Friday comes about six weeks before Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce unveils an overhaul of the national flag carrier's loss-making international operations flown by the main Qantas brand.
Jetstar group chief executive Bruce Buchanan told reporters in Singapore on Friday the planned investment in aircraft would be worth US$500 million.
An Australian Associated Press report confirmed this.
Qantas owns 100 per cent of Jetstar Australia, while it holds a 49 per cent stake in the Singapore-based Jetstar Asia.- Bernama
