By Surin Murugiah / theedgemarkets.com | March 4, 2016 : 9:22 AM MYTKUALA LUMPUR (March 4): The FBM KLCI opened lower today as profit taking on key blue chips weighed the local benchmark index lower.
At 9am, the FBM KLCI opened 1.59 points lower at 1,686.61.
The top losers included Petronas Gas Bhd, MISC Bhd, Genting Bhd, KPJ Healthcare Bhd, UEM Edgenta Bhd, Naim Holdings Bhd, Axiata Group Bhd, IJM Corporation Bhd and DiGi.Com Bhd.
Asian shares look set to post a third straight week of gains on Friday as investors scaled back cautious bets on the global economy after a string of positive US economic data and a recovery in oil and commodity prices, according toReuters.
The rebound in risk asset prices could continue if the upcoming US employment report points to solid job gains, but not strong enough to encourage rate rises in the near term, it said.
JF Apex Securities Research in a market preview today said US markets ended slightly higher overnight as oil prices stabilised and investors await tonight's employment data.
It said that earlier, European stocks registered small losses following decline in healthcare counters.
"On the local bourse, the FBM KLCI ended 2.83 points lower at 1,688.20 points after retreating from an intra-day high of 1,699.96 points.
"Following the lackluster performance in the US and Europe, the FBM KLCI is expected to remain range bound below the psychological level of 1,700 points," it said.
