By Ahmad Naqib Idris / theedgemarkets.com | April 27, 2016 : 8:02 PM MYTKUALA LUMPUR (April 27): The appointment of Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim as governor of the central bank is "definitely positive for the country", said outgoing Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) chief, Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz.
"Being part of our policy team at the bank will provide continuity and the much needed certainty in this prevailing period of great uncertainty.
"I have great confidence in his ability to lead the bank going forward into the future," said Zeti in a statement this evening.
Muhammad, who was appointed deputy governor of BNM in June 2010, was announced as Zeti's successor today.
The new central bank chief, who will take over from Zeti on May 1, holds a master degree from Harvard University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
Prior to joining BNM, he has helmed Danamodal Nasional Bhd as its managing director and the Securities Commission Malaysia as its commissioner.
