'Small builders won't be left out in Greater KL'

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik
Raja Zainal Abidin today assured small contractors that they would not
be left out in the implementation of projects outlined under Greater
Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley (Greater KL).



He said efforts would be made by the ministry to find ways, like the
"umbrella system" to include the participation of small contractors in
the project.


"We have not come out with the specific guidelines but something
has to be worked out so that the smaller contractors can get the chance,
because as far as the government is concerned, we want the Greater KL
project to be felt in all sectors, not just the big players," he told
reporters after a briefing on the Greater KL project to contractors in
Putrajaya today.


Raja Nong Chik said the briefing, attended by 600 contractors, was
held to give them a general view of the project, its scope, objectives
as well as business opportunities and contracts to be tendered and their
duration.

Earlier in his speech, Raja Nong Chik called for cooperation from
the public sector to realise the government's objective of planting
100,000 trees in the city.


They could help by funding the tree planting and also to adopt the
pocket park concept in the development of their respective areas, he
added.


He said efforts were also being made by the government to make
Putrajaya a more vibrant place by having more business kiosks, opening
of international restaurants and focusing on commercial development to
get more participation from the private sector. -- Bernama
