Shireen honoured as one of 25 Most Influential Women
PETALING JAYA: Corston-Smith Asset Management founder, managing director and principal fund manager Shireen Muhiudeen (pic) was recently honoured as one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Asset Management in the Asia-Pacific region by AsianInvestor magazine.
Shireen has more than 24 years of experience in fund management, 12 of which she spent at the Malaysian branch of AIG Investment Corp as chief executive.
In 2004, she set up Corston-Smith, an asset management firm focused on corporate governance investing in South-East Asia, based in Kuala Lumpur with an office in Singapore.
Corston-Smith has the distinction of being the only asset management firm in Malaysia to be a signatory to the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investing and a member of the distinguished Asian Corporate Governance Association.
“This celebration of successful women by AsianInvestor highlights the progress that has been made and shows there are no limits to what women can achieve,” Shireen said during her keynote address at the award presentation ceremony.
She established the Asean Corporate Governance Fund in 2008 and the Asean Syariah Corporate Governance Fund in 2009.
Currently, she is working with the International Financial Corp, which is part of the World Bank, on the formation of the Maharlika Board for the Philippine Stock Exchange, a trading board for companies with the best corporate governance practices.
A columnist with The Star, Shireen is also writing a book reviewing 25 years of corporate governance issues in South-East Asia.
To celebrate the centennial year of International Women's Day, AsianInvestor's list of the 25 Most Influential Women in Asset Management within the Asia-Pacific region also includes Securities Commission chairman Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar and Kumpulan Wang Persaraan CEO Datuk Azian Mohamad Noh.
Owned by Haymarket Publishing, the UK's largest privately owned publishing company, AsianInvestor focuses on the asset management industry, investment trends and capital news in the Asia-Pacific region.
