Perodua to go into used car biz
Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) plans to venture into the used car business as a way to boost sales.
Managing Director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said Perodua was currently conducting a feasibility study on the matter and expects it to be completed within the next three-six months.
"The used car business is to facilitate those who may want to trade in their cars to buy new ones. We are doing a feasibility study on the business," he told Bernama in an interview here today. Aminar said Perodua plans to set up its own used car outlets.
"We’ll start small, one each in the north, south, east and west of the country as well as Sabah and Sarawak. We’ll start in the big cities and have pilot outlets to consider the demand. "We’ll expand the business when we see there is demand and the opportunity for success," he added. He said that the company would focus on after sales service in the current economic situation.
"The after sales service can be an opportunity during this difficult time and we’ll try to focus on it," he added.
Aminar said there are indications that next year would be challenging for everyone due to the global economic uncertainty.
"This year, we were affected by the tsunami in Japan in April, May and June but recovery started in July. The momentum is still there with the launch of the new Myvi cars but next year would be challenging," he added. - Bernama
