Malaysia AirAsia records 80% load factor in Q1
KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Bhd's Malaysia operations recorded a strong load factor of 80% in the first quarter ended March 31, 2012 following a 12% increase in its capacity.
It said on Thursday it carried 4.82 million passengers in the 1Q2012, which was a 12% increase due to the introduction of new routes.
"The strong traffic was spillover from a strong Q411 especially with the introduction of new routes," it said.
As for East Malaysia, it increased its Kuala Lumpur - Kota Kinabalu frequency to 14 times daily.
As for Thai AirAsia, its load factor of 87% was a 3.0 percentage point increase on-year. The number of passengers increased 17% on-year due to strong demand from the new China and Indian routes. Capacity increased by 14%.
However, Indonesia AirAsia's load factor slipped 2.0 percentage points on-year to 77% in Q12012 due to a 19% increase in capacity on-year. Passenger growth was 16% on-year.
