KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd queried Permaju Industries Bhd on Monday over the sharp rise in price and high volume of its shares recently.

Permaju closed 20 sen higher at 73 sen with 16.02 million shares done.

It bucked the cautious market where the FBM KLCI closed down 6.17 points to 1,584.87. Turnover was 963 million shares valued at RM1.19bil. Losers beat gainers 540 to 205.

Bursa Securities advised investors to take note of Permaju's reply to the unusual market activity (UMA) query.

It also requested the company to furnish it with an announcement for public release after making due enquiry with its directors and major shareholders seeking the cause of the UMA in the company's shares.
