NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- U.S. stock rallied right out of the opening gate Tuesday, with all three major indexes up more than 1%, following better-than-expected retail sales and manufacturing data. And markets continued their rise through the morning.

The Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) added 127 points, or 1.1%, with nearly all 30 of the blue-chip index's components moving higher. A 3.5% jump in shares of Home Depot (HD, Fortune 500) led the advance. Intel (INTC, Fortune 500) and Chevron (CVX, Fortune 500) were also big gainers

The S&P 500 (SPX) rose 16 points, or 1.3%, with shares of JC Penney (JCP, Fortune 500) and Carmax (KMX, Fortune 500) leading the gains.

The Nasdaq composite (COMP) gained 40 points, or 1.5%, with shares of Baidu (BIDU) and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) among the best performers.

In a report-heavy week, the first round of economic data this week helped set the stage for an early rally.

The Commerce Department said retail sales slid 0.2% in May. While it was the first decline in 11 months, it was much less of a decline than economists had forecast.
"We've hit a soft patch in the economy," said Matt King, chief investment officer at Bell Investment Advisors.
Plus, the market has really taken a hit the last several weeks, dropping nearly 6% since the beginning of May, so King said today's bounce may be because "the market has gotten pretty oversold."

U.S. jobs creation lags far behind ... Europe



China released inflation data that showed the nation's rapid pace of inflation picked up again in May -- even though the government has stepped up efforts to tame rising prices.
The country's inflation rate rose slightly to 5.5% in May, up from an increase of 5.3% in April, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics.
After the announcement, China's central bank raised the reserve requirement ratio for depository financial institutions by half a percentage point, effective June 20.
While inflation remains high, the report eased fears of stalling growth.
"It's either inflation or a slowdown -- there's always something to worry about," said Anthony Conroy, head trader at BNY ConvergEx Group. "But I think you would rather worry about inflation than things really falling off a cliff."

Natural gas prices heating up

Working oil rigs are tropping the number of rigs drilling for natural gas for the first time since 1995.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Natural gas prices could double over the next several years as U.S. producers gain access to international markets and excess supplies begin to shrink.
After nearly collapsing in the aftermath of the recession, natural gas prices have managed a nice post-recession recovery and are up 3% this year.

Just last week, prices jumped to $4.80 per million British thermal units following a bullish outlook from the International Energy Association and forecasts for warmer weather.
Don't expect prices to rebound back to their 2008 peak above $13 per million BTUs, but experts say prices could top $8 over the next several years.
"We're getting ready for a sustained turnaround in natural gas prices and sentiment," said Peter Tertzakian, chief energy economist at ARC Financial in Canada.
A key driver of that change is the opening of a gateway to meet rising foreign demand, particularly in emerging markets.
