KUALA LUMPUR (June 19): Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aims to strengthen ties with six new code share partners by next year.
Vice-President (Government and Industry Relations) Suresh Singam said MAS currently had 24 code share partners and was looking into six more, mainly from Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
"By taking this initiative, the national carrier will be able to serve customers better through improved connectivity.
"These partnerships will also provide our customers better rates and services," he told reporters after the opening of the oneday, oneteam, oneworld roadshow here today.
The roadshow is being organised by MAS with oneworld alliance.
It is part of an initiative to educate and familiarise the oneworld alliance's member airlines staff about its many products, services and benefits.
Suresh said by joining the oneworld alliance, MAS has seen the interline performance with other oneworld members grow more than 60 per cent between January and April this year.
"There has been significant interline growth with Japan Airlines, American Airlines and Cathay Pacific, which are also Malaysian hospitality code share partners," he added.
He said for MAS, joining oneworld, completes yet another successful phase of its business plan.
"MAS, which serves more than 60 destinations in almost 30 countries, has now substantially expanded the alliance's network in one of the world's fastest growing economic powerhouses, South East Asia," he added. -- BERNAMA
