KHARTOUM (Jan 20): Sudanese Oil Minister Makkawi Mohamed Awad said his country welcomes Malaysia's national oil company Petronas's interest to increase its oil investments in the country and has called for greater bilateral co-operation in the sector.

He said this over the weekend when he met a delegation led by Petronas Vice-President Mohd Anuar Taib, who is also CEO of Development & Production.

The meeting reviewed the company's desire to co-operate with Sudan in the oil, gas, scientific and technical fields.

The State Minister at the Ministry of Oil, Hatim Abual-Gasim, called on Petronas to increase its oil production through modern technology, stressing that Sudan will help in the development of Petronas' business in the country.

Anuar praised the role Sudan played in providing technical assistance in the oil field to South Sudan, affirming that his visit came within the framework of following up the company's operations in Sudan and South Sudan.
