KL bourse closes steadier

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI ended firmer today, bolstered by regional funds taking advantage of the local market's defensiveness, dealers said.
At 5pm, the benchmark FBM KLCI closed 6.48 points higher at 1,491.46.
"Malaysia is seen as an incentive market. There was also cosmetic dressing ahead of the closing of the year," a dealer said.
The general market saw losers overwhelmed gainers by 455 to 290 while 336 counters closed unchanged and 287 untraded.
Some 1.204 billion shares worth RM1.017 billion changed hands compared with 1.655 billion shares worth RM1.321 million yesterday.
The Finance Index rose 102.32 points to 1,3369.96, Plantation Index added 15.37 points to 7,923.25 and the Industrial Index increased 3.86 points to 2,666.68.
The FBM Emas Index gained 44.47 points to 10,214.93, FBM Mid 70 Index firmed up 72.00 points to 11,236.47 while the FBM Ace Index lost 38.59 points to 4,027.80.
Among active counters, TMC Life-Warr added 11 sen to 11.5 sen, Sanichi Technology declined 2.5 sen to 13 sen and Hibiscus Petroleum-Warr 11/14depreciated 2.5 sen to 49.5 sen.
In heavyweights, Maybank rose eight sen to RM8.45, Sime Darby was flat atRM9 and CIMB Group appreciated five sen to RM7.00. Volume on the Main Market decreased to 671.493 million shares valued atRM937.520 million from 944.79 million shares valued at RM679.44 million yesterday.
Turnover on the ACE Market fell to 228.720 million units worth RM32.750million from 551.18 million units worth RM482.041 million.
Warrants rose to 300.048 million units valued at RM44.211 million from213.914 million units valued at RM31.818 million.
Consumer products accounted for 69.180 million shares traded on the main market, industrial products 127.713 million, construction 27.742 million, trade and services 203.051 million, technology 21.204 million, infrastructure 47.469million, finance 55.526 million, hotels 348,100, properties 64.889 million,plantation 32.467 million, mining 24,000, REITs 6.493 million and closed/fund 17,000. -- BERNAMA
