Market Thoughts
US stocks logged a gain on the first day of March, but still finished off their best levels following some unconfirmed reports, later denied, of a Saudi pipeline explosion. Approximately 40 minutes before the market closed, an Iranian media report of an explosion on an unknown Saudi oil pipeline propelled crude prices to over $110 a barrel, while pushing stocks briefly into negative territory.
Meanwhile, European shares closed up after a firm reading of weekly jobless claims in the United States provided a boost for stocks. Gains were capped by worse-than-expected manufacturing data from the United States however, which cast a shadow on expectations that the world's largest economy was on a steady recovery path.
On the local market, we expect the FBM KLCI to remain sideways with a positive bias. The index could be on its way to retest its all time high at 1597 points.

Manufacturing in the U.S. grew less than forecast in February as orders eased, slowing the industry that has powered the two-year expansion. The Institute for Supply Management’s factory index fell to 52.4 from 54.1 in January, the Tempe, Arizona-based group said today.
European Stocks Rise as Spanish, French Borrowing Costs Drop; Veolia Jumps
European stocks rose, extending the Stoxx Europe 600 Index’s best start to a year since 1998, as Spanish and French borrowing costs dropped and a report showed initial jobless claims fell to a four-year low in the U.S. The Stoxx 600 advanced 1 percent to 267.06 at the close. Oil Rises to $110 on Report of Pipeline Explosion
Oil climbed over $110 a barrel for the first time since May after an Iranian state-run news channel reported an explosion on a pipeline in Saudi Arabia. A Saudi official said no oil facilities were sabotaged. Futures reached $110.55 at 3:17 p.m. in New York after Iran’s Press TV reported on its English-language website that “an explosion has hit oil pipelines in the flashpoint Saudi Arabian city of Awwamiya,” then fell back below $109.

Re: 2 March 2012
Greetings to all,
Remember, your mental limitations are of your own making.
For years, athletes attempted to run a mile in four minutes but it seemed to be a barrier that no one could overcome. Then on May 6, 1954, a British runner named Roger Gilbert Bannister ran a mile in 3:59.4 minutes to establish a world record. Soon afterward, other runners broke Bannister’s record. Too often, we accept conventional wisdom as fact. Make sure you set your goals high enough. Don’t settle for less because of limitations you place upon yourself. Most of us never really reach the level of achievement of which we are capable because we don’t challenge ourselves to do so. Perhaps Robert Browning said it best: “A man’s reach should exceed his grasp, / Or what’s a heaven for?”
