Bursa Malaysia Q2 earnings up 6.2% to RM37.9m (1818)
KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd earnings rose 6.2% to RM37.94mil in the second quarter ended June 30, 2012 from RM35.71mil a year ago.
It said on Wednesday that revenue increased by 4.8% to RM105.96mil from RM101.05mil. Earnings per share were 7.10 sen. It declared an interim dividend of 13.5 sen compared with 13 sen a year ago.
For the six-month period, its earnings rose 3.3% to RM78.71mil from RM76.20mil. Revenue was marginally lower at RM216.47mil compared with RM217.16mil.
In its analysis of the six-month financial performance, Bursa Malaysia said its operating revenue fell 2% to RM197.2mil while operating expenses declined 4% to RM104.90mil.
"Average daily trading value for securities at RM1.74bil, down 10%. Market capitalisation at end-June 2012 at RM1.37 trillion, up 2%. Velocity at 30%, down 14%," it said.
Bursa Malaysia said the cost-to-income ratio improved to 48.5% from 50.4%.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Tajuddin Atan said Bursa Malaysia recorded a stable performance for the first half of this year with a 3% growth in PATAMI due to an increase in stable revenue, which grew 10% to RM62.5mil from RM56.6mil.
"The growth in stable revenue was attributed to larger IPOs, more structured warrants, revision in market data rates and more direct market access fees.
"Securities market's trading revenue was down 10% to RM92.9mil from RM103.8mil in the first six months of 2011. Average daily trading value (ADV) in the first half was RM1.74bil compared to RM1.93bil in the first half of 2011. Market capitalisation was up by 2% to RM1.37 trillion from RM 1.34 trillion in the corresponding period last year.
