RM775m available under Green Tech scheme
There is still available, almost RM775 million in soft loans under the RM1.5 billion Green Technology Financing Scheme (GTFS).
The Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) Secretary General, Datuk Loo Took Gee said up to June this year alone, 16 projects had already been certified.
"Five are on waste and water, one on transport and 10 others on energy.
"To date, a total of 188 projects have been certified. As of June, just over RM725 million has already been approved under the scheme," he added.
He said this in his speech at the opening of the Waste Management Conference and Exhibition 2012.
His speech was read by Paul Wong Kok Kiong, Secretary of the Green Technology Division of the Ministry.
Loo said, green technology products and services developed and marketed by Malaysians and their counterparts, need to be showcased both locally and internationally to gain more credibility and acceptance by potential users or customers.
"Companies with genuine green products and services are therefore encouraged to apply for registration with the Green Directory administered by Malaysian Green Technology Corporation under KeTTHA.
"Currently 158 companies have registered their products under the categories of agriculture, building and maintenance, food and beverage, energy industrial, office supplies, print and paper, recycling and waste, transport, and water.
"There are 25 companies registered under business and professional services," he added.
He also said that the Green Technology (GT) sector was still in the embryonic stage but fast expanding.
"My Ministry will continue to endeavour to put more hearts and minds to further catalyse this sector. Energy security and renewable energy initiatives are continually being emphasised," he added.
Loo also said that waste management had many opportunities for innovative green technologies, such as the recycling and recovery of various materials from waste, waste to fuel or waste to energy and waste to fertiliser.-- BERNAMA
