Canon eyes 30pc mirrorless cam market
KUALA LUMPUR: Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd aims to achieve a 30 per cent
share of the mirrorless camera market by end of this year with the
launch of its first digital single lens non-reflex (DSLR) camera -- the
EOS M model.
"Thirty per cent is equivalent to about 1,500 units
of EOS M a month, while the market size is 4,000 units," Canon Imaging
Communication Products Division Director, Simon Wong told reporters
here today at the global launch of the EOS M.
The EOS M is the latest addition to its Electro-Optical System (EOS) family of cameras.
With
the new addition to its product line-up, Canon is confident that it
will be able to reach a 10 per cent growth this year compared with last
year, said Wong.
"To date, Canon holds the number one position
with a high market share of 60 per cent in the Digital Single Lens
Reflex (DSLR) camera category. With the EOS M model, we hope to achieve
30 per cent market share in the mirrorless category," said Wong.
The all new EOS M possesses interchangeable lens camera in a compact form with a revolutionary interchangeable lens system.
It is also is the most accessible EOS camera providing the same level of photographic characteristics of a DSLR.
With
the introduction of EOS M, Canon has also launched two new lenses which
are the EF-M18-55mm and EF-M22mm, to complement its new class of
cameras.
The EOS M will be available worldwide October this year onwards and will carry a price tag of about RM3,000.--BERNAMA
