Berjaya Corp's Bermaz inks JV to produce Mazda cars in Malaysia (3395)

KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corporation Bhd's subsidiary Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd is teaming up with Mazda Corporation of Japan to undertake a manufacturing programme in Malaysia to produce Mazda cars in Malaysia.
BCorp said on Tuesday the JV was to increase more local assembly and manufacturing activities of Mazda models in Malaysia.
"This
follows the initial start-up CKD Programme for the Mazda3 in Inokom
which will then be followed by the newly launched Mazda CX-5 with fully
equipped SKYACTIV technology," it said.
BCorp said Mazda would
be able to reduce costs and gain a more competitive advantage amongst
the local car assemblers to support the sales and marketing efforts of
its distributor, Bermaz Motor.
"The joint venture will be able
to increase the localisation activities which would create more local
vendors involvement in the Mazda Malaysian localisation programme," it
said.
