KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 -- The National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom) has forecasted 10 to 12 per cent growth in ICT spending this year and and next five years.
President and Chief Executive Officer Shaifubahrim Saleh (rpt Saleh) said the association was confident of achieving the growth target.
Last year, ICT spending in the country was RM57 billion and about 20 per cent were hardware sales, he told a media briefing on PC Fair 2013.
He said the ICT retail sector has been affected by the current economic malaise, taking a toll on the global economy, but an improvement was expected this year despite the slow recovery.
"Nowadays people tend to buy online for their ICT needs, but nevertheless Pikom will continue to host PC fairs as this is one way to generate demand and drive sales for the ICT industry.
"We strive to create a healthy retail industry through these fairs being held in various places country-wide," he added.
Meanwhile, winners in last year's Pikom PC Fair lucky draw will be announced at a PC Fair in Kuala Lumpur on April 14.
Pikom today roped in the services of the media to help shortlist lucky draw winners who participated in the PC Fair at 27 places nationwide last year.
The journalists' participation is to ensure transparency of the lucky draw process.
Grand prizes for the draw is a fully-paid package for two people to visit the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World while the special draw winner will drive home a Nissan Almera. Both prizes are worth RM70,000.
Last year, the fair attracted some one million visitors at 27 locations. -- Bernama
