KUALA LUMPUR (April 2): The ringgit was traded sharply higher against the US dollar today supported by strong buying interest from local and foreign buyers, dealers said.

At 5pm, the local unit was traded at 3.0865/0895 against the US dollar, compared with 3.0920/0955 at the close yesterday.

"The stronger ringgit was also in line with the strong performance in the local bourse," the dealers said.

However, the ringgit was traded mostly lower against other major currencies.

The ringgit depreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.4939/4966 from 2.4911/4942, fell against the Japanese yen to 3.3142/3192 from 3.059/3100, and was down against the euro to 3.9643/9691 from 3.9605/9653.

The local unit, however, rose against the British pound to 4.6955/6010 from 4.7026/7089.
