KUALA LUMPUR (April 20): The DAP, which is under investigation by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for alleged party election irregularities, faced no problem when its candidates submitted the party's symbol when filing their nominations today, for the 13th General Election.
The party is contesting 51 parliamentary and 103 state seats.
The DAP had made contingency plans to contest under the PAS banner in the Peninsula and use the PKR logo in Sabah and Sarawak after the ROS said it did not recognise the DAP central working committee elected last December, following complaints of irregularities lodged by some party members.
ROS stated that despite its investigation, the DAP was not deregistered and the party could still use its symbol for the polls.
In a straight fight for the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman were confirmed contestants.
In PENANG, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng also had his candidacy accepted for a three-cornered fight to defend his Bagan parliamentary seat and a
straight fight for the Air Puteh state seat.
Guan Eng said yesterday that the party's candidates would carry two appointment letters, one from the DAP and the other from its opposition partners, to the nomination centres.
