MOSCOW (May 8): Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vladislav Surkov
has been relieved of his position upon tendering voluntary resignation,
the Kremlin said Wednesday.
Xinhua news agency reported that he was also stripped off the post as
head of the government secretariat, according to a decree signed by
President Vladimir Putin.
Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin published
an article on Tuesday in the Izvestia daily, accusing Surkov of attempts
to hide mismanagement and funds embezzlement in the Skolkovo, a
project often dubbed as the Russian Silicon Valley.
Surkov strongly dismissed those allegations, calling Markin "a
graphomaniac", but he did not respond to the particular accusations.
On May 1, Surkov said the Investigative Committee had been acting "too eagerly" by accusing Skolkovo supervisors "with no
evidence presented."
Surkov, 48, has worked as a deputy prime minister since May 21, 2012. Prior to that, he had been the first deputy chief of
staff of Kremlin. -- BERNAMA
