Bursa: Share prices retreat mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR (June 11): Share prices on Bursa Malaysia retreated mid-afternoon in sync with regional markets as investors' risk appetite was curbed by disappointing global news, dealers said.
At 3.02 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 5.84 points lower at 1,781.96 with 1.44 billion shares worth RM1.262 billion transacted.
Petronas Dagangan shrugged off 1.472 points from the composite index followed by Genting with 1.24 points.
A dealer said the Bank of Japan's decision to keep its monetary policy unchanged affected investors' sentiment regionally.
In regional markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 plummeted 196.58 points to 13,317.62, Hong Kong's Hang Seng plunged 196.63 points to 21,418.46 and Singapore's Straits Times Index fell 25.96 points to 3,175.12.
Back home, the Finance Index lost 44.27 points to 16,982.08, the PLANTATION [] Index fell 19.95 points to 8,474.09 and the INDUSTRIAL INDEX [] declined 19.66 points to 3,033.94.
The FBM ACE Index trimmed 69.49 points to 4,712.18, the FBM Emas Index erased 48.68 points to 12,441.24, the FBMT100 decreased 43.99 points to 12,190.85 and the FBM 70 Index gave up 68.62 points to 14,449.26.
Market breadth was negative with losers leading gainers 501 to 262, with 275 counters unchanged, 551 untraded and 22 others were suspended.
Among actives, Malton added one sen to 84.5 sen, Patimas Computers shed half-a-sen to six sen and MAS eased one sen to 31.5 sen.
Heavyweights, Maybank rose six sen to RM10.50 and Axiata Group added two sen to RM6.73.
However, CIMB lost eight sen to RM8.19, Sime Darby shed one sen to RM9.60 and Petronas Chemicals slipped two sen to RM6.60.
