KUALA LUMPUR (June 12):Talks on the purchase of a stake in Phillipines' San Miguel Corp's banking unit are progressing and in the final stage, said CIMB Group chief executive, Datuk Seri Nazir Razak.

"We are still in negotiations with San Miguel on the transaction. We are making progress and will make the announcement at the right time," he told a media briefing here today after the signing ceremony between CIMB Fusion and six partners for its human capital development.

Nazir was referring to an article in a local daily quoting president of San Miguel, Ramon Ang, as saying a deal was reached on CIMB Group's acquisition of 58 per cent stake in San Miguel's banking unit.

He said it may be a misquotation as the deal has not been concluded.

On CIMB Fusion programme, Nazir said it would attract a lot of applicants to work in CIMB Group.

CIMB Group today signed a partnership agreement with six partners, namely, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Accenture, DraftFCB, Teach for Malaysia, HP and ZICOlaw.

The programme offers local graduates a dual-track programme designed to broaden their knowledge and cultivate varied skill sets.

Graduates will have the opportunity to gain invaluable working experience in one of the six disciplines, in addition to banking and finance, with CIMB Group within a period of two to four years. -- BERNAMA
