MSM M’sia Q1 profit soars 417%

PETALING JAYA: Soon-to-be-listed refined sugar producer MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s net profit for the first quarter ended March 31 soared 416.5% to RM62.2mil from a year ago, mainly due to increase in sales and higher prices of refined sugar products.
Revenue for the quarter rose to RM503.17mil from RM497.75mil. Earnings per share were 8.82 sen while net assets per share were RM1.58. The company, in its filing to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, said that notwithstanding the volatility of commodity prices, the group was expected to be able to sustain its satisfactory performance.
MSM Malaysia, the largest refined sugar producer in the country, is set to be listed on the Main Market on June 28.
