KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed lower today amid an easier cash market, dealers said.

Spot month July 2013 and August 2013 slipped 0.5 point each to 1,769 and 1,769.5 respectively. September 2013 fell 1.5 points to 1,768 and December 2013 was unchanged at 1,771.

Phillip Futures Sdn Bhd dealer, Liam Kian Yap, told Bernama the market was quiet and was traded within the range of five points.

He said investors were also indecisive and stayed on the sidelines after the index started on a weak note yesterday.

"A better-than-expected quarter earnings by Alcoa Inc wasn't able to convince investors that the US corporate financial results season is going to be outperforming," he said.

Total turnover stood at 3,602 lots, while open interest totalled 36,356 contracts.

The underlying FBM KLCI ended 3.62 points better at 1,766.49.
