KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed higher today, in tandem with the record close on the underlying cash market, dealers said.
Spot month July 2013 and August 2013 added 5.5 points each to 1,798.5 and 1,797, respectively.
September 2013 gained five points to 1,799 and December 2013 rose nine points to 1,803.
Philips Futures Analyst, Tan Sek Wei, said the FBM KLCI futures contracts were moving to reach another milestone.
"The futures contracts closed at 1,797 with firmer underlying cash market.
"The bellwether was lifted by heavyweights like Tenaga Nasional which shot up more than three per cent to its six-year high record, IOI Corp Bhd and Ambank Holdings Bhd," he said.
However, the index has been unable to close above 1,800. This level is a 'psychological hurdle' for the index.
Turnover improved to 5,501 lots from 3,535 lots on Thursday, while open interest increased to 41,107 contracts versus yesterday's 39,641 contracts.
The underlying FBM KLCI ended 6.2 points better at 1,797.74.
