KUALA LUMPUR (August 2): MALAYAN BANKING BHD [] (Maybank) will announce at 4pm today the appointment of its new president and chief executive officer (CEO), according to a statement from the group.
Maybank chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor "will announce and introduce the new Maybank Group’s president and CEO" at a press conference later today, the financial services entity said.
Maybank officials declined to elaborate when contacted by the theedgemalaysia.com today.
The president and CEO post was vacated by Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar who was appointed senator and Economic Planning Unit minister at the Prime Minister’s Department.
News reports have indicated that Abdul Wahid's successor may include internal and external candidates.
The list includes Maybank Investment Bank head Tengku Datuk Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Maybank deputy president and global wholesale banking head Datuk Abdul Farid Alias, and Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) president Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli.
Meanwhie, UEM LAND HOLDINGS BHD [] CEO Datuk Izzaddin Idris, and BURSA MALAYSIA BHD [] CEO Datuk Tajuddin Atan are also seen as contenders for the Maybank job.
