Midday Market KLCI dips on mild profit taking, remains volatile

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): The FBMKLCI dipped at the midday break on Monday as local investor sentiment remained nervy and volatile, despite the slight recovery at most regional markets on upbeat manufacturing data from China.
At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI fell 5.18 points to 1,796.65.
Losers beat gainers by 383 to 230, while 279 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 1.17 billion shares valued at RM713.26 million.
The top losers included Malpac, Apollo, Malaysia Smelting Corp, UMW, DKSH, Tiong Nam Logistics, HLFG, Hong Leong Bank, Cahya Mata Sarawak and UMS.
TMS was the most actively traded counter with 194.72 million shares done. The stock rose 3.5 sen to 16 sen.
The other actives included Sona Petroleum, Luster, China Stationery, Hovid, NTPM, Hibiscus and Tiger Synergy.
The gainers in the morning session included United PLANTATION []s, Hartalega, Asia Brands, Zhulian, Kossan, IJM Land, Tawin, Java and Perstima.
Hong Leong Investment Bank Research (HLIB) in a trader’s brief Monday said positive newsflow over the weekend that Angela Merkel won a landslide personal victory in Germany's general election yesterday should receive well by the market.
“However, the ongoing debate over the U.S debt ceiling limit (likely to be resolved at the eleventh hour) and Fed’s deferment on QE Taper will continue to trigger volatility to the markets. KLCI will remain volatile this week with trading range from 1765-1810.
“Reiterate take profits/sell into any rallies strategy,” it said.
Elsewhere, most Asian markets crept higher on Monday after a closely-watched measure of Chinese manufacturing hit its highest in six months and showed a promising pick up in export orders, another sign of stabilisation in the world's second biggest economy, according to Reuters.
The news helped shake off a soft lead from Wall Street and nudged MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan 0.3 percent higher, it said.
