Keith, a former US ambassador to Malaysia, said the foundation would convene events that generate new approaches to bilateral relations, and deepen channels of communication and understanding between both countries.
"MAF will draw support from both Malaysia and the US, and will cooperate with the Malaysia-America Society and leading organisations focused on East and Southeast Asia, to promote closer US-Asia relations," he said in a statement today.
As appropriate to its bi-national character, the foundation will operate in the United States, with headquarters in Washington and Kuala Lumpur.
"The board of directors will consist of prominent persons on both sides. The foundation's immediate priority is to promote the betterment of US relations with Malaysia," he said.
MAF, a non-profit non-governmental organisation, is dedicated to enhancing people-to-people ties and mutual understanding among Malaysian and American people, and policy-makers.
Last year, total trade between US and Malaysia stood at about US$40 billion (US$1=RM3.23).
