The ringgit was quoted at 3.1585/1605 against the greenback from Wednesday's 3.1715/1745.
A dealer said regional currencies, which also strengthened, may continue to display a potential duality, either responding to dollar's vulnerability or heightened risk aversion.
Meanwhile, the ringgit was traded higher against other major currencies.
The domestic currency rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.5423/5443 from 2.5501/5535 on Wednesday and appreciated against the yen to 3.1969/1992 from 3.2231/2264 yesterday.
The local unit was up against the British pound at 5.0413/0457 from 5.0826/0890 yesterday and firmed against the euro to 4.2757/2796 from 4.2917/2961 on Wednesday.
