In a statement, the global courier and transportation firm said it expects more than 85 million shipments to move through its global networks, during the busiest week of the year, Dec 1-7.
This points to a 13% increase compared to last year’s busiest week, it said.
FedEx said the impact of the expected higher volumes was included in the company’s earnings guidance issued in September.
The global courier explained that e-commerce is thriving globally at three to four times the rate of traditional retail buying in brick and mortar stores.
It said the Asia Pacific region is at the forefront with sales expected to grow 23%, accounting for nearly one-third of all e-commerce sales around the globe and out pacing the rest of the world.
“In addition to e-commerce, retail inventory such as personal consumer electronics, apparel and luxury goods will drive the increase in FedEx holiday volumes,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president of Asia Pacific FedEx Express.
“The Asia Pacific region plays an important role in the production of these goods.”
