PETALING JAYA (Nov 29, 2013): Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is partnering Philippine-listed First Philippine Holdings Corp (FPH) to jointly bid for the construction of a new passenger terminal, renovation and expansion of the existing terminal, operation, maintenance and management of the terminals, and other works at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in the Philippines, the second largest airport there by domestic traffic.

"The airport is currently managed and operated by the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, under the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) of the Philippines," said the airport operator in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

"FPA was pre-qualified and shortlisted as a bidder for the airport by the relevant authority on May 15, 2013. FPA invited MAHB to participate as a consortium partner and MAHB agreed to participate subject to the relevant authorities' approval and consent. The DOTC has, via its letter dated Sept 5, 2013, approved MAHB as a consortium member," added MAHB.

MAHB on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with FPH to be part of First Philippine Airports consortium that would jointly participate as a consortium partner for the bidding process of the MCIA project.

"If the consortium is declared as the winning bidder, MAHB and FPH will set up a joint venture company to undertake the project," said MAHB.

MCIA handled 5.3 million domestic passengers and 1.5 million international passengers last year.
