KUALA LUMPUR: Oldtown Bhd, one of the more well-known players in the white coffee business, plans to open 10 more outlets in China, in addition to the four already there.

The company laid out its plans to analysts during a briefing and factory tour recently.

Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) said the home-grown white coffee company is setting the stage for more China outlets by engaging social media like Weibo and placing advertisements in Hong Kong's MTR train stations.

As a prelude to the China expansion, Oldtown has appointed April Eight (Guangzhou) Ltd to produce pastes and sauces for Oldtown outlets in Guangdong province.

HLIB said in its note that Oldtown has 227 cafes overall, of which 202 are in Malaysia, Indonesia (13) and Singapore (eight).

The company has opened five new outlets this year.

Besides cafes, Oldtown is also into the food and beverage kiosk business. It has a memorandum of understanding with Shell Malaysia to operate outlets at Shell petrol stations.
