REDtone Mobile eyes 500,000 more subscribers

GEORGE TOWN (Jan 9): Mobile virtual network operator, REDtone Mobile
Sdn Bhd, aims to sign up another 500,000 subscribers this year, from 120,000
currently.
Its CEO Farid Yunus said the company is strengthening its position in the
competitive telecommunications market.
He said the group subscribers are increasing by about 20 per cent monthly and
the target of 500,000 subscribers this year would cap another milestone.
"We are growing. The revenue increases by an average of about 20 per cent
monthly. Our average revenue per/user is about RM35," he told reporters here
today.
Farid said this after signing a memorandum of understanding with Public Gold
Marketing Sdn Bhd's General Manager, Sam Eng, to design and mint gold bars with RedONE logo.
He said the group planned to set up another 80 concept stores in Peninsular Malaysia from the current 20 in the Klang Valley, Johor
Bahru, Miri and Kota Kinabalu.
REDtone Chief Sales Officer, Ben Teh, said the group would order about 1,000 10-gram gold bars from Public Gold to be given as a
reward for the company's agents who hit the group's target.
"We think this kind of reward will be more meaningful and will boost the agents' performance," he said.
He said currently the group has 1,000 agents nationwide.
REDtone Mobile is the only postpaid mobile operator currently using Celcom's infrastructure.
The company, established in 2009, focuses on capturing the large, small and medium voice and mobile data market in Malaysia.
It is 35 per cent owned by ACE Market-listed REDtone International Bhd, a data and broadband service provider
