KLANG (Jan 24): Used oil recycler Hiap Huat Holdings Bhd plans to increase the contribution of its recycled base oil exports to total production of between 30 to 40 per cent, from the current five per cent.

Managing Director Chan Say Hwa said, the the company's new treatment plant in Pulau Indah here, can produce about 30,000 tonnes of recycled base oil per annum.

"This will make the plant one of the largest recycled base oil plants in our country," Chan said during the launch of the plant, called Topmark Petroleum Products Sdn Bhd.

He said that the total investment of RM32 million for land and machinery in Pulau Indah, will increase its total recycled oil production from the Pulau Indah plant and two other plants — in Bentong, Pahang and Gopeng, Perak — to 61,000 tonnes.

Chan also said that the company plans to increase its market share of the recycled oil market in Malaysia, in the near future, from the current 34 per cent.

He said that the company's role of helping clients recycle their waste oil, is also part of its corporate social responsibility to conserve and protect the environment.

Meanwhile, Hiap Huat Holdings Bhd Chairman, Zulkifly Zakaria, said that the company chose Pulau Indah, as the area provides easy access to an abundant supply of waste, generated by the marine industry.

"Close proximity to Westport, the Pulau Indah Industrial Park and Selangor Halal Hub are also seen as contributing factors," he said in his opening speech.

He added: "Recycled base oil is the main product produced by Topmark Petroleum. Though recycled, it is as good as the original product, resulting in a consequential increase in the production of lubricant and fuel products."
