KUALA LUMPUR (Mar 4): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has clarified that the terminal building of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) remains under the responsibility of the main contractor until the Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) is issued.

It said this after a news report that the main contractor, a UEM Construction Sdn Bhd and Bina Puri Sdn Bhd joint-venture, had handed over the main terminal building to MAHB recently.

In a statement today, MAHB said for the CPC to be issued and full handover to happen, the terminal building must obtain the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) based on the relevant authorities’ requirements.

It said all works must be completed according to the MAHB's operational requirements as stated in the contract.

"However, to facilitate the May 2, 2014 opening, the terminal building contractor has agreed to allow the commercial retailers, agencies and airlines to start their renovation," it said.

MAHB said the contractor had received the Fire and Rescue Department's recommendation letter to certify that the terminal complied with fire-fighting and safety regulations.

"The contractor is currently rectifying the sewerage system in order to issue the CCC to Malaysia Airports by April.

"The Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) is currently ongoing to prepare for May 2, 2014 opening date," it said.

The company said its priority was on safety, operational efficiency and quality of the terminal building.

"We are working closely with all the stakeholders to ensure that these are achieved," it said.

The ORAT Working Committee, chaired by MAHB's Senior General Manager (Operations), communicated and monitored the progress of the airport's readiness and preparation for the airport transfer on a regular basis, it said.
