KUALA LUMPUR (March 04): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed higher today, in tandem with gains in the underlying cash market.

Phillip Futures Sdn Bhd dealer, Tan Sek Wei, said that the local market rebounded at midday today, on positive news over developments in the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

"At midday, the index was able to claw back its previous losses, as Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops in military drills near Ukraine, to return to base.

"Investor sentiment lifted, after this news," he told Bernama.

At close, both March 2014 and June 2014 rose 15 points each, to 1,829 and 1,826 respectively, while both April 2014 and September 2014, gained 15.5 points each, to 1,827.5 and 1,825.5 respectively.

Turnover fell to 7,617 lots, from Monday's 9,866 lots, while open interest narrowed to 38,324 contracts, from 40,562 contracts last week.

The underlying FBM KLCI ended 1.77 points higher, at 1,826.46.
