Monday, 28 April 2014 19:43 KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 28): The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will finalise its report on the klia2, the new terminal for budget airlines, relating to contradictions between the statements from AirAsia Bhd and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB). PAC Chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the report will be tabled in Parliament soon, after the committee has scrutinised the statements. "It's a long process (to finalise the report). We are just helping (to resolve the issue) and closely investigating. We are not out to find faults with anyone. "PAC just wants clarification from all interested parties as lessons learned and input for the airport project in future," he said, adding klia2 will operate on May 2 as scheduled. He was speaking to reporters after a meeting on the klia2 attended by AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Bhd Executive Chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun and AirAsia Bhd CEO Aireen Omar. Nur Jazlan said at the meeting, AirAsia denied making demands relating to the safety aspects of the runway, parking bays, taxi service, uniform SITA passenger processing system, aerobridge, museum, spa and expansion of the space outside the terminal to accommodate Airbus A380 planes. He acknowledged the differences in the views of MAHB as the airport operator and AirAsia as the anchor tenant that will be taking up 80 per cent of the new terminal. Nur Jazlan said AirAsia proposed the setting up of a National Aviation Commission so that the views of industry players are considered before decisions regarding the aviation industry are made. He said the klia2 project is based on an open tender and has not involved any element of abuse, wastage or leakage. PAC has also requested MAHB to submit the list of consultants for the klia2 construction project so that it can check their qualifications and track record, he said, adding matters arising at the meeting included the need to clarify the cost of extending the rail line from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to klia2. |
