KUALA LUMPUR (May 6): UEM Sunrise Bhd announced that it had signed a collaboration agreement with Mulpha International Bhd for the development of three sets of roadworks in Iskandar Malaysia.
Nusajaya Rise Sdn Bhd (NRSB) and Leisure Farm Corporation Sdn Bhd (LFC), subsidiaries of UEM Sunrise and Mulpha respectively, will create and upgrade roads in Gelang Patah and Gerbang Nusajaya, to improve access to Gerbang Nusajaya and Leisure Farm Resort.
NRSB and LFC has respective stakes of 59% and 41% in the project, which is valued at approximately RM107 million.
The roadworks to be conducted by the NRSB-LFC joint venture (JV) consist of Roadworks 1, Roadworks 2 and Roadworks 3.
Roadworks 1 include the upgrading of the state road from Gelang Patah to Gerbang Nusajaya and Leisure Farm Resort to a dual two-lane road, construction of a new dual three-lane road and the construction of a one-lane slip road to Linkedua.
Roadworks 2 will include upgrading the existing state road from Linkedua to Leisure Farm resort to dual two-lane.
Roadworks 3 will consist of the construction of an interchange from the Linkedua to Gerbang Nusajaya, which includes the link road to Linkedua.
The JV expects to complete Roadworks 1 and 2 by December 2016, while Roadworks 3 is expected to be completed in December 2018.
Datuk Izzaddin Idris, executive director of UEM Sunrise, said that the original plan was for NRSB to conduct roadworks in the vicinity of its development to obtain the approvals from the local government for the development.
Meanwhile, LFC had already obtained approvals from the local authority to build three interchange roads for its Leisure Farm Resort community.
“However, in view of the proximity of NRSB’s interchange road to that of LFC’s, NRSB proposed to LFC that we enter into a collaboration agreement to carry out the construction of the common roads, so as to jointly meet the needs of our respective communities.
This ultimately resulted in the two parties agreeing to build the three sets of roadworks,” he said.
