KL shares lower in early trade

Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were mixed in early trade as overnight losses on Wall Street weighed on local sentiment, dealers said.
After 10 minutes of trading, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,589.61, down 5.13 points after opening 0.4 of a point higher at 1,595.14.
US stocks fell overnight weighed down by disappointing US job data and concerns over the fact that euro zone debt crisis was spreading to Italy.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 62.29 points lower at 12,657.20, the S&P 500 index declined 9.42 points to 1343.80 and the Nasdaq lost 0.45 points to 2859.81.
Meanwhile, HwangDBS Vickers Research said the key FBM KLCI could see a pullback after closing at its new high of 1,594.74 on Friday.
"Technically speaking, the benchmark index may slide towards its immediate support level of 1,575," it said in a research note today.
The Plantation Index rose 21.41 points to 7,931.39, the Finance Index gained 8.41 points to 15,047.15 while the Industrial Index was 6.7 points higher at 2,889.32.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia Mid 70 Index was up 23.08 points at 11,894.78, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Ace Index lost 2.49 points to 4,178.16 while the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Emas Index added 6.63 points to 10,940.96.
Volume stood at 40.56 million shares valued at RM30.31 million with gainers outpacing losers 102 to 64 while 100 counters were unchanged and 1,222 other remained untraded.
Among active stocks, Xidelang Holdings gained 15 sen to 42 sen, Silver Ridge was unchanged at 27.5 sen while DVM Technology added half-a-sen to 10.5 sen.
Among heavyweights, Maybank, CIMB and Petronas Chemicals lost one sen each to RM8.98, RM8.91 RM7.10, respectively. - Bernama
