PNB collects more than RM11b for first 6-months
KOTA BAHARU: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) has collected more than RM11 billion from investors all over the country for the
first six months of this year, its President and Chief Executive Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said today.
This compared with the RM18 billion collected the whole of last year, he told reporters after handing over PNB's business zakat amounting to RM1.6 million to the Islamic Religious Council and Malay Custom of Kelantan (MAIK) here today.
The zakat cheque was presented to Tengku Mahkota Kelantan, Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra Sultan Ismail Petra, who is also the Head of MAIK.
Hamad Kama Piah also said that the Amanah Saham 1Malaysia trust fund launched recently was still open to all Malaysians for subscription.
On the zakat given to MAIK this year, he said that Kelantan was the fourth state to be receiving its zakat for the 2009 year.
Prior to this, PNB had paid zakat of RM5.92 million each to the Islamic religious authorities of Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Perlis.
"The amount given is based on the need of the people and their investment participation in share units in their respective states," Hamad Kama Piah said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of MAIK, Datuk Kamaruddin Mat Zin, said MAIK was aiming to collect a total zakat of RM75 million this year compared with RM70.3 million last year.- Bernama
